Filtering Materials

Filtering materials in aquariums are the fundamental choice for good maintenance of the aquatic environment and for water filtration. It is often necessary to use different filter materials, each performing a specific function, to obtain the best possible result.
For good filtration you will therefore need: synthetic wool or sponges, for mechanical filtration. Ceramic rings or porous spheres for biological filtration, as a substrate for the nesting of nitrifying bacteria. Activated carbon or other specific synthetic resins, for specific water filtrations. Or peat to acidify and color the water, as in the South American biotopes of the Rio Negro and the Amazon River.
